Army of Darkness Review
Written by: TERRORWATCH
If you start off with a good idea, something really original that ain't got any down falls why go and make it into someone bad? See thats what all trilogy's do and most go to pot like The Scream trilogy and many others, there lack of ideas to cash in on old dreams and movies make the way for a bad ending on the set of movies. Army of darkness is no different from the rest of them, I mean I'm not saying it isn't entertaining its just that its been spoiled. Evil Dead is the iconic scary movie that had the biggest balls for a long time and now we see its offspring movies being about medieval times and Bruce Cambell going after a ugly chick wearing a robe? What happened to the old fashion scares and shocks or was all this lost due to money matters and pointless ideas?
The Army of Darkness was the 3rd movie in the Evil Dead trilogy, before that was seen Evil Dead 1 and Evil Dead 2. The first movie was serious down to the bone, a real bad boy horror movie, the next Sam Raimi wanted to do the first with a bigger budget so Evil Dead 2 was born. The after a few years later they decide to cash in on the whole idea and make a new Evil Dead movie just with a crazier idea and a lust for cash. In the movie was just see a arrange of medieval dressed character walking around in a desert living ordinary life, nothing special here. The only person that is in the movie worth watching it for is for Bruce Cambell, hes the king of horror and in this he takes the comedian side more than anything and really becomes a hero he has always wanted to be. You could say that the movie is more fantasy than anything, he gets to strike big fancy lines and walk around like hes a god, it really is 80's cheese hitting me in the face with a lame 90's feel to it. I didn't enjoy watching this at all i felt like vomiting everywhere, i would of done but it wasn't for the fact like i have Bruce Cambell poster on my upstairs door that i couldn't.
Castles, deserts and palm trees, what does it all mean. Give me a good old shack and a few bushes and ill be fine. I mean this movie went completely over the top with its big scenes and its fantasy hero love story, you know the one, the boy rescues the girl from the evil forces. The movie was made so overcomplicated and it ruined everything from the start, it was a tragedy that it was made. However if you sit back and watch allot it is entertaining if your drunk and you need a perfect movie to get you through the hours. The effects were lame and the little men scene was totally lame, the monsters looked like lumps of plastic and looked like play toys and the skeletons looked like put together match sticks. To call this movie a horror is a joke, Ive seen the care bears and thats more of a horror than this pile of trash, its a downright disgrace and if i was Bruce id Ive killed myself by now!
The scores were very low budget lord of the rings style because of the action style and appearance of the movie which really did add to the tack of the movie. Every scene looked like they pieced it together one afternoon and you can clearly see this ain't a well thought about movie. Things didn't make sense and sense couldn't even make out on the movie. Overall if you want to laugh at small stupid things and your easily amused by pointless things go see this. However if your a true movie fan like me and you like your films don't see this because this movie will scar you for life and in most cases its actually fucking harmful.
