Drag Me To Hell Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More Drag Me To Hell Review
9 out of 10 Skulls

What can I really say about this movie that hasn't already been said? Well there is one thing... the magic of Raimi is back and this is a blast in the dark experience. I have missed this man and the horror he brings but finally he is back!

The story is concise and simple, the characters for the most part are likeable. But more importantly the shocks and laughs roll minute after minute barely letting you up for breath.

The story as we know is about Christine Brown who finds herself torn between a possible promotion and doing the right thing. In the end she goes for the latter and evicts an old woman from her home. However during the process she is cursed by the old lady and suddenly her life becomes a living hell. Desperate she turns to a seer to try and save her soul as evil forces push her to the limit, whatever that might be...

The actors, the jumps, the loud score, the gross out gags are all reminiscent of the Raimi we love and of course echo parts of the Evil Dead films, but the intellect of this movie is despite borrowing parts we recognise it retains its own identity.

I absolutely loved this movie. I sat in the cinema and along with countless others sat down awaiting this once in a lifetime experience. Truthfully it was also a nice change in that everyone seemed to love this movie. All around me people were hiding, others laughing and some jumps were produced. In truth it has been a long time since a movie has had that effect in the cinema and it made the experience all the more golden.

Firstly Alison Lohman, let's be honest she had big shoes to fill. Evil Dead was a long time ago and a iconic film, yet she was the main star of this and needed to rise above all else. In my mind she did. She started out gentle, tender but as time went on and the evil forces conspired against her we see a character change in her. More resilient, more tougher and with some truly great one liners she was fantastic. I don't want to give much away but the graveyard scene was truly beautiful to watch, and that line, wow!!

Lorna Raver as Mrs. Ganush. I really cannot rate her performance highly enough. The make up to create the gypsy she is was done well and not without reason. She gave an added layer to Mrs. Ganush. Yes we are suppose to hate her but it is not often I find myself feeling sorry for said character too. She played creepy well and was the perfect choice. Dileep Rao as Rham Jas was a good actor he was entirely believable in the role and a lot of empathy went toward him.

For the bad? Step forward Justin Long. It actually pains me to say this but he did not really add an whole lot to the movie, in fact he could have been left out and it would not have mattered an iota. He is a truly charismatic actor when in the right role but not enough was made for us to understand or care for his character, he felt much like an afterthought. The only time I finally gained emotion for him was the ending but it seems a little late into the story.

Cinematography, Music and Special Effects:
The music, ouch lol, it was loud is what I will say. It reminded me of Raimi's earlier days but it adds it's own dark touch. Yes parts of the music aided in making me jump, it was eerie, quirky and everything that is the embodiment of his earlier works. I loved it =)

Cinematography was actually nicely put together. You get to see subtle shots that give a detailed eye to the viewer and another glimpse into what the main character herself is feeling. Added touches of the likes of candlelight, versus dark, accompanied with suddenly images of Mrs. Ganush were perfectly timed and I loved every moment.

Special Effects? I really did like this. Mrs Ganush's effects as I said was lovely. There were some laugh out loud moments, i.e. the nosebleed scene, just top notch. Bodily fluid effects just disgusting but funny and wonderful. It all had a old school approach and was more the better for it.

It comes down to some simple facts. If you loved or even liked Evil Dead, this will catch your eye and be a welcome addition to the day, if however you cannot appreciate Raimi's style then this movie will not tide over well. You are one of the two and not in between, that cannot exist with his films.

I absolutely loved this!! I have seen reviews on HM.CA giving it not so kind reviews but in my opinion this is the sort of films that are missing today. Good wholesome entertainment and non stop fun packed with plenty of creepy moments and 'Ewww' moments along with the titter of laughter.

It's been a long time since I ventured to the cinema and I am glad I choose this film. I will no doubt buy this on DVD but this will always be an experience and memory that stays with me. That makes me smile when I think of the thought. I am happy on some many levels describing this movie and I wish everyone could appreciate what it does offers, instead of what it may not.

I have only thing left to say, Raimi is back!!! Forget the age rating, forget your worries this is pure brilliance wrapped in a neat tidy movie, created by one of the icons in Horror.

This is sheer joy. I just hope no one ever tries to Drag me to Hell.

Brilliant, easily 9/10. P.S. Go and watch this now, if you have not!
