Dawn of the Dead (2004) Review

Although I hate almost all remakes I decided to give this one a chance. When I first saw it I was young and hadn't seen the original and wasn't a grumpy old snob reviewer who hates remakes, yet :P. And I watched this one and even watching it now it is a good movie, it really isn't a remake of the original except for the fact that they are in a mall. This movie is nothing like the original and is its own film, except for the mall thing, and that is what I liked about this, well and you got a big black guy who is bad ass kicking ass.
Dawn of the Dead (2004) is about a women waking up in the apocalypse, literally. Right off the start her boyfriend is bitten by their 10 or 11 year old neighboor girl right when they wake up and he then attacks her. Now the girl has two zombies trying to kill her and when she gets away she gets in her car and after driving the hell out of there she crashes into a tree. When she awakes she is greeted with a shotgun in the face held by a big black man, played by Ving Rhames who was in People Under the Stairs, and they begin heading to where they need to. On their way they meet up with a white man and a black man with his pregant girlfriend. They all then head to the mall and while there they meet up with the security guards and a truck pulls up releasing more people. They all then last there to survive, or do they?????
This movie, like I said, is so much different from the original calling it a remake would be wrong. In the orig the zombies walk in this they run. Orig there are 4 characters in the mall in this one there are like 10+. In the orig they fly to the mall in this they walk....The list goes on and on. The only thing that is similar is they are in a mall and there is a kick ass black man. :D lol
So with that said, this movie offers a lot in its run time and it is really enjoyable. It isn't perfect, but that doesn't matter because it is a bad ass zombie flick. The gore is good and plentiful for anyone and the acting is good too. Zach Snyder as a director I give him hope, he also did 300.
So definitely check this out if you like zombie movies, and the zombies run so its like, "OH SHIT!!!" and you really can't survive in that, or can you.... :P. This was fun and gory and calling it a remake really doesn't work. Plus there a ZOMBIE BABY how can you not like that? lol. I give this n 8/10!!!!
