Feast (2005) Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

Loud, fast and bloody. This is an enjoyable romp that will entertain and disgust in equal measure. It pulls no punches, it has no grace and it actually makes some very clever twists that actually take you off guard. I admit I brought this movie on pure chance. I had heard it was fantastic but every movie should come with a pinch of salt until you have seen it for yourself, so therefore I remained dubious.

But I must say this was worth the price and it was unquestionably worth the time.

Funny, brutal and actual quite a shock to the system, this is out and out enjoyment!

Dare I mention the plot when it is so well acquainted? Maybe a little.
A group of strangers are acquainting themselves in a remote bar when a newcomer crashes the place, covered in blood and telling them to seal the place when he is suddenly devoured by a creature unlike any other. Banding together they realise they must defend the place if they are to survive the carnage to follow.

Let me put this into a simple frame. There are two things in the core of the movie that give it movement to work as well as it does. The acting and the gore.

For a lesser known movie in the Horror stakes, the acting is actually well kept.

Henry Rollins!! Need I say more! :) Wrong Turn 2, he was one of the best actors in the entire film and this he pulls just as blinding a performance. To not love this guy is to not fully comprehend his style of acting, which for this particular film, was absolutely key. He ruled! Simple as.

Jason Mewes as Edgy Cat. The man that forms as part of the duo that comprised of Jay (his character) and Silent Bob, pulls off the fish out of water look well. He has clearly matured in acting and shows the range he can offer when he is not tied to one particular stereotype.

Then there is Krista Allen as Tuffy. What a woman, what a body, what an actress! Truthfully when she first started acting in Feast, she did seem rather sure of herself and I was left wondering if she would flounder but then came the magic. When she had to exert herself and show what she could offer she dived head in to the role and gave us one helluva a performance. Mesmerised by how well she adapted to the character, I completely fell in love with her. She has a quintessential beauty. Not too beautiful but also not ugly, she is the girl we can see across the street so it made her performance even more amazing.

Fantastic actress!

Music is a wee bit intense, sharp, edgy, bad right? No, lol, this is a fast paced ride. From when the 'hero' enters the bar and sharply exits in a less fulfilled manner, to the death of the kid all the way to the bloody finale this is chock full of moments that take away breath and set our pulses racing. So the music is just a great compliment overall.

Cinematography. It wasn't anything amazing but prior to the scenes continuing in the bar it was pretty sweet. Deserted roads, lonely areas surrounding the bar are quiet and studious. The mottled look of the scenery was beautiful and quite nicely done so when the first scare came it actually did catch you off guard.

Gore. Ahh, the tour de force. Loved it! Bloody limbs, Decapitation, Blood spatter, Slime streams it's all there in it's bloodied glory. I love how quickly the movie moves from the introductions to the gore fest. It really wastes no time in getting immersed in the delight of the film.

I am trying to speak of the movie without giving away too much of the film. Why? It really is a film that should not be explained otherwise much of the film loses a little spark. Just take it from this gal that this is hardcore horror fun that doesn't try to be different, does not try to be unique just simply give a jolt to the system. You want a good psychological horror, this is not it! Want good old fashioned monsters with large doses of blood and sarcastic humour, you'll like this.

Rather reminiscent of the good old 80's lore of Horror this is a movie that entertains and entertains. No deep thinking, no complex theory just pure adrenaline based fun this is definitely worth the price of a DVD. And if you don't like it? I will refund the costs *crossed fingers behind back*. Hehe, buy/ rent, just have fun with this movie that really is straight to the point and great, great gory fun!

Enjoy, have popcorn, plenty of drinks and sit back for the ride!
Mwah! Much love, BTK.
