The Craft Review
Written by: Rileyofthedead It's been a few years since I watched this movie but I'm glad to say that I liked it just as much as I did back then. A 1996 supernatural film about four girls creating a witch coven and performing spells to better their lives only to find internal power struggle, The Craft is definitely a nice film. Especially if you're a teenage girl, which I am. I'm not saying that this isn't for the male audience, but due to the lack of violence and sex, and the focus on witchcraft and female leads, it's not likely that a guy will willingly watch this by himself. Starring Robin Tunney and Scream co-stars Neve Campbell and Skeet Ulrich, this is a pretty entertaining film. It utilizes the spirit of Wicca, at least until the end then it turns a little bit Hollywood-ized. The images and scenery are very nice to look at. It is very Sunnydale like, aka it reminds me of non-vampire Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe, which I think is awesome. Each actor perfects their role; Tunney plays the protagonist innocently but with strength and will power; Campbell does a turn of going from shy and sweet to vivacious and narcissistic; and Fairuza Balk plays the crazy-ass leader of the coven to a tee. I suppose another reason I like this film is the generation, the clothing and atmosphere is very cool in the way that 1996 was. What can I say I'm a 90's girl, I love that decade. While the climax could have been better and a little more violent, I totally recommed this film as a good solid B-movie. It's not scary, but it's fun. Especially if you're a teenager thinking about turning the hands at witchcraft. It's imaginative, which I like. I heard there was gonna be a possible sequel, ala direct-to-DVD, and wouldn't you know it got canceled? Out of all the crappy sequels out there The Craft 2 is the one that got shafted? Movie studios are weird. -Rileyofthedead This is a community member review and not a staff member review.
