American Werewolf in Paris Review

5 out of 10 Skulls

American Werewolf in Paris tries to take the first one into a totally different direction than is needed. They try to make it more of a cult film, and I mean that in the literal sense the movie is about a cult or group of werewolves...I feel this was a pretty lame concept but worked only at some points.

American Werewolf in Paris is about a group of three friends going to Paris. One day they are up on top of the Eiffel tower because the main character wants to bungie jump from the top. While up there a mysterious women tries to kill herself by jumping from the top but the main character falls with her. He saves her life and then on the fling up hits his head and ends up in the hospital. After that he tries and finds her and return her slipper and ask her out, since he has fallen for her (literally). But she tries to push him away to hide her terrible secret, she is a werewolf. One day the group of friends end up at a fact party that turns out to be a slaughter party where the werewolves kill people and the main character is bitten and loses a friend. He eventually turns into a werewolf and has to deal with the mayhem he causes unless he finds a way to stop this and turn back to normal. But thats easier said then done when he finds out what he has to do to turn back to normal, eat the heart of the werewolf that turned you. So the main character either needs to eat the heart of the one he loves or join the cult of the werewolves.

Tihs movie was very poor in many aspects. The CGI effects looked terrible, the acting wasn't that great, and the whole idea of a group of werewolves just almost mocks the original movie, which was a classic. The werewolf transformation scene in this one tries to compare with the original but fails badly because it uses CGI to do so and you can't compare to that classic scene from American Werewolf in London....Its just one of those untouchable scnes of perfection and non-CGI. Plus this movie was very tame, theres some gore, like the undead ghost things, but then when you see the zombies they turn into a joke in this movie, yelling, "Hey! he's over here" and jumping around like its a big joke. I hated taht....

But the good sides to the movie include-A good start to the movie with interesting plot and not just following the original exactly, branching off to be its own movie...which eventually is ruined unfortunately. The three characters in the movie from the beginning I liked as charcters, but they killed off my favorite one. Two scenes that make this movie better were the club scene, the first one, and the ending scene in the church was pretty kewl.

Overall this wasn't an epic fail of a movie but had some horrible ideas in it and was pretty lame. But it had some few redeeming qualities to it including a good beginning and end. I give American Werewolf in Paris a 5/10!!!!
