Diary of the Dead Review

6 out of 10 Skulls

George A. Romero has come a very long way in this horror community of ours. Building up a strong and high and mighty reign as the zombie movie god. But lately he has been on a down hill slide to nothingness. Romero is losing his touch and he is coming out with movies that are dissapointing fans. Diary of the Dead although an okay movie was dissapointing coming from the director of Dawn of the Dead, or Night of the Living Dead, or Day of the Dead. I was really excited to see this movie, but it didn't live up to what it should have been, although I did still enjoy it for what it was.

Diary of the Dead takes advantage of the first person camera as a group of college students are trying to film the zombie apocalypse and show the world. They are making videos and getting many hits, but at what cost? Some of their friends are dying and they are all coming close to death each day. While they survive to tell the story or will they end up just another part of it?

In this one instead of Romero softly bashing the government or propaganda or what not, he almost shoves it in your face and forces you to except it. If you don't believe me jsut listen to the dialogue, but this really doesn't bother me so much, but it could for some people.

There were some really kewl gore scenes in this movie, and I believe minimal CGI if any. There is a scene with a pole and brains to enjoy, acid in the face, and a really kewl shotgun to the head at the end of the movie that made me clap :D. The gore is good but at points tame compared to Land of the Dead or the others he has done. But there is this really kewl and kick ass Amish dude who blows zombies up and cuts them up with his scythe but he isn't in the movie for very long :( but his little reign was very enjoyable to watch.

Overall I feel George Romero is losing his touch but he is still making decent zombie movies with good gore and concepts. I would still recommend checking this movie out, but don't compare it too highly with his classics. I give Diary of the Dead a 6/10!!!!
