Zombie Review

8 out of 10 Skulls

Is there anything more beautiful, more compelling, more heart rendering than an Italian zombie. I think that I shall never see, anything more pretty than a Fulci Zombie. Bad poetry? Yes, it was. Great movie? No doubt.

If  the thought of a zombie fighting off a shark does not set your heart aflame with desire than stop reading now - you are not one of us. This movie has some truly great gore setpieces. The gore is the star of this film and it comes fast and furious. A quick list would have to include multiple gunshot wounds, an amazing throat tearing, and, of course, the legendary splinter in the eye. So tasty.

There is more than enough gore to keep anyone satisfied. The plot is your usual father missing, daughter seeeking, island filled with the flesh eating undead fare. But even though the plate sounds familiar the dish served is not.

The zombies are amazing. The make-up, while not spectacular, in some cases is truly creepy. These zombies sure do love their flesh and eat it at every turn. Everybody is on the menu and Fulci serves up some surprisingly original buffet content. These zombies will take a beating but still fall under the old "hit it in the head" Romero rule.

You owe it to yourself to see this film. Yes, it is a rip-off. No, it is not as a good as Dawn of the Dead. Yes, it is truly gory. No, your girlfriend will not appreciate it nor will most of your friends. Will you enjoy it? Oh yes, as much as a splinter in the eye.
