Saw 2 Review

5 out of 10 Skulls

I remember the first time I saw this movie, (no pun intended there), I really didn't care for the movie too much. Whether because I felt it wasn't gory enough or whatever, it just wasn't that appealing to me. I rewatched the movie and maybe I was alittle hard on the movie. Now, I'm not saying the movie is a masterpiece or a great sequel because its not. The first Saw was a good movie and now with all these sequels its like, come on give me a break. But the sequels coming out now really can't hold a torch to this one. Although not as good as the original its still a masterpiece compared to Saw 5...

Saw 2 is about a cop who has some problems with his son. They don't get along very well but he still loves his son very much. In the opening scene of Saw 2 there is a man in a reverse fly trap rig and through that Detective Matthews, the father mentioned before, finds the location of Jigsaw, or John. When Matthews gets there with the other cops they find that there is a group of people trapped somewhere and they are watching it happen through the cameras in the house, but the problem is Detective Matthew's son is within that small group of people facing death. The people in the house are all victim to a deadly strain of something in the air and scattered around the house is antidote to whats inside them. They go around the house trying to find it and survive, but not everyone will. They have 2 hours to live and 3 hours until the doors open to the house they are trapped in. Will this be enough time for the police to find them or will no one find the antidote. And oh yeah, Amanda from the first movie is back playing another victim.

The gore in this movie is pretty tame but at times quite good. There were however some good scenes, and some rather enjoyable....i.e. the spiked bat or the gun door. Plus there are some cringe worthy scenes in this movie, and its not all just about the torture and the traps don't seem forced, like some of the other sequels.

This movie, although not great, is not a bad movie. Plus the ending twist was very good and watching back on it you can see the signs and it works well. The ending is good and the gore is so-so. Plus the story is good too. But the things its lacking on, is well...being interesting throughout the movie. One thing thats wrong with all these Saw movies is the boring dialogue. Sure, some things point to others in the talking but its just not interesting enough to keep my interest. I mean, don't get me wrong I love movies with talking, but only when its good or interesting.

The original is much better but for a sequel compared to the others its not bad. Its not that good either, besides a good story and twist and a few kills but thats about it. Nothing really more and I still feel Saw didn't need a sequel. But, regardless, I am giving Saw 2 a 5/10!!!! Check it out if you liked the first movie I guess though. These movies also just seem to focus on the gore and bloody aspects rather than making a good movie.
