The Descent Review

7 out of 10 Skulls

When a group of women decide to explore some caves together it turns bad when they are taken to an unexplored cave instead. The women are trapped by some rocks in this cave and no one knows they are there. Well, no one on the outside world, but there is something with them in that cave, something hungry. From director Neil Marshall comes this gory blood bath in the dark depths of a cave. Will the women come out alive, or will whatever is in there with them, get them?

I call Neil Marshall the 3D's director because he has done Dog Soldiers, Descent, and Doomsday. Descent is his second directing attempt and I feel he hit a homerun with this one, not only is the movie somewhat suspensefull but its also pretty damn gory and blood filled. There are some really great blood/kill scenes and the movie starts and ends with a bloody bang!

The characters in the movie are actually kind of likeable, but its hard to relate for a group of girls for me. But the main character lost her child and husband in the opening scene of this movie and if you buy that then you begin to feel for her in the rest of the movie. You see she is depressed throughout basically the rest of the movie, until she rises above all that at least.

The idea of ending up in the wrong cave or being caved in is something no one wants to think about. It would just be terrifying! Then to find out somethinng else is in there with you, and you can't see a thing, would just be unbelievable. But the things in this movie aren't really monsters, they are humanoids but not human. Its weird, but they look pretty kewl, but they can't see, they are blind but they can hear good.

Overall The Descent is a good movie with some blood to hold its own. Its worth a look for all horror fans. Definitely check this movie out if you havn't already. I give The Descent a 7/10!!!!
