Day of the Dead Review

10 out of 10 Skulls

This film is a fitting end, Land of the Dead notwithstanding. I truly enjoyed Day of the Dead from start to finish. I love the apocalyptic introduction with the money and crocodiles everywhere. The plot is straight forward. Itis humanities last stand and the setting is an underground millatary compound. Soldiers and scientists are trying to find a way to solve their zombie problem.

The scientists have the only female character - she may very well be the last female on earth, which causes some tension between the scientists and the soldiers. The soldiers are streotypical war machines who want to fight and fuck. It is order versus chaos.

The new millatry commamder, Rhodes, is a hard ass who will kill his own men to make a point. Everybody is exhausted, scared, and alone. Relationships fracture and fall apart. The zombies seem to be the least of the problems.

Dr. Frankenstein - you have to see this to beleive it. This character beleives he has found a way to domesticate the zombies. The millitary, of course, have no use for this - they want to destroy.

The story is really about the female lead and the helicopter pilots - 2 men who want nothing more than to fly to a tropical island and live out the rest of their days.

You really should see this film if you are a Savini fsn - it is some of his best work. While the dialogue can be a little grating (the word fuck is used more here in 20 minutes than in an entire Taratino flick) the characters are compelling. The gore is way above average and the grue really flies once this film gets going. This film needs to be in your collection.
