Midnight Movie Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More Midnight Movie Review
8 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: Suspiria_89

Midnight Movie is a direct to DVD horror movie that really caught me by surprise. Going into the movie, I expected it to be yet another average or below average slasher movie. But instead it turned out to be a very fun and entertaining movie that had a little bit of originality.

Plot: A midnight showing of a early 70’s horror movie turns into chaos when the killer from the movie comes out of the movie and begins to attack the people in the theater.

After reading the plot of this movie, I thought it would be a lot like Bava’s 1986 classic “Demons” which has a similar plot. But I found it to be more like the 1991 slasher flick “Popcorn”. And that’s not a bad thing. Midnight Movie has several good things going for it. The first good thing is the characters. There very believable and likeable(even though the acting wasn’t always great) and you actually cared about some of them and you didn’t want them to die. Especially the lead girl. The next good thing is the gore. At first the kills are mainly off screen, but every time someone dies the kills get more and more graphic. I really loved how it started off tame and then got gory after a few kills. The body count is pretty high and the kills are impressive. Another plus for the movie is the running time. The movie is only about 80 minutes long but the running time felt perfect. It wasn’t to short or to drawn out so you never got bored. There was also a few good camera angles in the movie and I really liked how it showed the killers Point of view.

Midnight Movie has two main flaws. The acting and the ending. Most of the cast does a fairly good job acting, but some aren’t so good. Especially the little kid and the big biker dude. Both sucked pretty bad. The other flaw is the ending. Towards the ending of the movie there is a pointless and useless “torture porn” scene. I really hate using that term, but that’s basically what it was. The whole scene felt out of place and I’m guessing the makers just through that scene in the movie for an extra shock scene.

Bottom line is that Midnight Movie is fun and fairly original entry into the slasher sub-genre. It is a nice mix of supernatural and straight up slasher movie horror. Just don’t take it to seriously and you will probably enjoy it.
