Black Christmas (original) Review

7 out of 10 Skulls

This movie may be a cult classic low budget horror slasher from the 70's but this jsut wasn't doing much for me. Its an alright movie and is pretty good overall but it didn't do too much for me, it bored me alittle and it was very gory, although gore doesn't make a movie. This was a pretty good slasher, as I said, and it stars John Saxon, who is really kewl, and has some genuinely creepy phone calls that no one ever wants to get.

Black Christmas is about a female sorority house that is being terrorized by these perverted calls. Some of the girls don't take them very seriously but then things start to go bad. One of the girls in the house goes missing, but really she is up in the attic dead....she was murdered by the person making the calls! But everyone spends their time trying to find her outside, the killer is in the house but no one knows. One by one the girls are being picked off, while the whole town is off looking for the missing girl the girls in the house are dying....will the killer be stopped? Or will he get away and kill them all?

Thats the basic idea of this movie. Its sounds like your average run of the mill slashers and that because it is, but I believe this was one of the first like it ever made, unless I'm mistaken. Although, this movie isn't a gore fest or an ultra violent slasher is still non-the-less a good one, and the killers voice constantly is changing so you don't know who the killer is, it could be anyone, even a girl!

Calling this movie unoriginal wouldn't really be fair because of how old it is. Its one of the first slasher movies of its kind and really doesn't copy anything, from my understanding, actually movies copy it mostly....like the recent remake Black X-Mas which is COMPLETELY different movie, and is full of gore and eye ball gags, While this one focuses on the creepiness and the suspense.

I would definitely recommend check this one out, it may be a bit boring but its a damn fine slasher from the 70's. Its a good watch for all horror fans, especially if your alone in a sorority house!!!!! I give the original Black Christmas a 7/10!!!!
