30 Days Of Night Review
Written by: MistressOf Horror
When I first heard of 30 days of Night I was excited to see a new twist on the vampire tale. Having seen the previews I could see it was a small Alaskan town . Where they don't see the sun for 30 days. Well I thought if I were a vampire THATS where Id go ! So the movie begins with the small town gearing up for the month of darkness. Most of the town leaving before the harsh winter sets in. Josh Hartnett stars as the small town sheriff who is investigating a rash of odd crimes.
Cell phones and helicopter engines destroyed. Sled dogs slaughtered. And a stranger in town. If that isnt enough his estranged wife happens to miss the last plane out. Soon enough the vampires strike. .These vampires almost came off as a whole new species. very old world look to them. a certain 'strangeness' to them, and a whole different language. Ruthless and quick, they soon have a small group of townspeople trying to hide and survive until the sun rises again. I liked this movie. It was different.
My only problem with this movie is that it didnt convey the fact that while this group of vampires had run of the town , they were holed up for WEEKS hiding in fear. . That they must have gone through so much For instance - rationing food, using the bathroom or venturing out to forage for food. Not to mention the two main characters coming together . Realizing that they belong together. These facts were barely touched upon or acknowledged. In fact if the characters hadnt mentioned that time had elapsed and that the 30 days of night were coming to an end . I would have assumed that only 2 maybe 3 days, had past.. Other than that i found it to be a good movie. I wonder how the sequel will turn out
