Frayed Review
6 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: AgingHorrorFan

What starts out as a simple retelling of John Carpenter's Halloween slowly takes on a life of its own in this well-made horror film from first-time directors Norbert Caoili and Rob Portmann.

Key to the movie's success is a plot twist that most viewers will likely figure out early on, but the film makers have enough skill to make that twist work for most of the running time. To say much more will give away most of the plot, so I best stop there. But I am curious to know what others think.

There are enough thrills along and way to keep any veteran horror fan on the edge of his or her seat at times. The stalk and kill scenes are well staged, with a pair of effective kills carried out of screen to great effect. And it's tough to beat the opening murder with a baseball bat. That has to be one of the most effective murders in horror history.

Sadly, Caoili and Portmann get a bit twist happy, and there is a last-minute turn that is not as successful as the first. The reveal almost sinks the film. Fortunately, the whole is better than the conclusion.
