Hard Candy Review

I saw this movie during the middle of the night some months ago. I loved it. I simply loved. But I don't have the courage to watch it again. "Hard Candy" is the only movie after which I couldn't get to sleep (so far..). But it's really a masterpiece in what we call psychotic horror. I felt like my mind was melting while watching this movie. So great and yet so psychotic that you just couldn't think of what you've just seen. It was scary, but not in the usual way. No monsters, or serial killers. Just a girl and a man. And the thaughts that you could be in a similar place to this man. This movie can simply make you enjoy your time but also it can drive you insane!
To start things off. The story is about a 14 years old girl who has met a 32 or so years old photographer over the internet. They've been chatting for a while and in the girl's mind an idea of maybe this man is a pedophile is being created. After three weeks of chatting, they think the time for them to meet has come. They meet at a coffee shop and after having a pleasant conversation the man invites the girl to his house. Until now the girl seems to act so much older than its age. When they finally get home, the girl goes to the kitchen in order to prepare some screwdrivers for them. After the man has drunk his drink, he passes out. And from then on the whole torturing and pain for the man beginns, while the girl is trying to expose his pedophilic habbits.
I have to admit. At the end of the movie, apart from that I hadn't completely understand what was going on, I couldn't decide whose side I was on.. Would I be with the sick minded (or so) man after all the things he went through, or should I be a punisher for pedophilia, like the girl?? I can't yet answer this question. This is I believe the strong point of the movie. They leave the decision on you. This, combined to the great acting is all what a great movie needs. The characters, their expressions and so on are so believable, seems so real, that they make you sympathize with them. Care about them, and be anxious about what is going to happen. The movie's duration is 104 mins. 104 mins of excitment, thrill and unexpected scenes. This movie is really what every horror/thriller fan would ask for a film. The director's takes are so amazing, that add even more to the movie. You just can't ignore the fact that you're terrified while watching this film.
To sum up, as you are able to understand, I really liked this movie. I definately recommend it to all of you and I think every "thriller" fan should watch it. One of my favorites and in my opinion one of the greatest thriller/horror films in the last years.. Give it a try, it worthes it.
