Dawn of the Dead Review

I would like to start by saying that George A. Romeros classic horror film "Dawn of the Dead" has been and always will be my favorite horror movie of all time. Not only was this first in George Romeros zombie quadrilogy that i viewed, but also the movie that really got me into tales of the undead and opened my eyes into the world of Horror. Dawn of the Dead not only revolutionized horror, but the film world in general. This movie has been seen by millions world wide and will continue to do so. Dawn of the Dead was more then your generic horror movie.No.It was something much more.
At it's time Dawn of the Dead featured the most amazing special effects to ever grace the big screen. Now compared to todays special effects you would probably laugh at what your seeing in Dawn of the Dead, but back then people were pissing themselves in disgust as blood shot from that young womans shoulder when her husband gave her a "rough kiss". The emotionless faces of the undead were enough to keep the audience staring in awe. Tom savini is much to thank for the amazing FX work in the film.
Special effects aside, what i find really makes this film great is the plot and character development. Dawn of the Dead was a black satire of American lifestyle that really made you think. Though none of the actors ever really lifted off their feet to the road of stardom, they each portrayed their roles amazingly. This kind of story and string of events was something that hadn't been seen in horror movies since the ground breaking "Night of the living Dead" which is another master piece by George A. Romero.
Whether you appreciate any films that were made before 3d effects or not, Dawn of the Dead is a must see for any horror, or film fan for that matter,of any kind. Or you could go watch Barney. Not alot of character development in that, but it's just as scary.
