The Host Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

I just finished reviewing Oldboy and sung its praises as being THE movie that got me into asian cinema and more specifically sub-titled asian horror. Before that I was a narrow minded genre fan who was far to lazy to do sub-titles. Right after having watched OldBoy I managed to get a copy of the Host to check out and me oh my was it a great film.

The Host is about a monster that decides to make dinner out of just about everyone living and working alongside a major river in a city center. The Host as its known it is soon revealed is the result of an infection from an experiment by the US Military. The movei although it is a monster movie is so much more as a family must unite to not just survive The Host but also to rescue their family members from the government.

This is not your typical scary ghost girl movie and the monster is quite well done as is the story and the characters within the film. It has been called the JAWS of our time by some which for me  is a bit of a stretch but it is without a doubt one of the better monster movies to come out of asia and if you call yourself a monster movie fan and have not seen it... shame on you. Buy it or rent it. Either way you wont be dissapointed.
