Seven Review

The movie starts slowly as we meet Somerset an old detective who is days away from taking his retirement and Mills who is a rooky who did everything in his power to get transferred to the big city. Both men on the surface are as different as they can get. One who is feed up with work and crime in the city while the other one only wants more of it. It’s entertaining to see the discussion between the two men who have such different opinion in life.
While working on different cases Somerset will realised that their cases are linked by one thing; the seven deadly sins. He knows that soon enough 5 more murders will follow. Even thought he says he doesn’t want anything to do with the case, he will make a few research and give them to Mills. They will need to partner up in order to catch this killer before it’s too late.
The opening credits of the movie give us some insight on who is John Doe but only if you know what to look for. It subtle but only makes it more interesting this way. The whole pace of the movie is slow but not as in the type of slow where you get bored. It lets you the time to actually think about the movie and everything that is happening make up your own mind. At some point you will feel as lost at the detective in the story not knowing what to think, not knowing where to turn left. John Doe’s house was well made and clearly though of. It’s as if everything has a meaning, everything is in its rightful place.
The different kills are amazing and well thought. Thought the MO is not always perfectly explained you can easily make up your own mind which I’ve always believed is the best way to make sure the viewers gets into the story. The killer is brilliant, he knows what he wants and knows how to get it. He has the upper hand on the police as they have to wait for his next move. The only real fight on screen is done in the rain with just a few bullets nothing to over the top.
The cast did an extreme job, the whole assemble of them was completely believable. They were great from start to finish. They played their part to perfection as if they were completely made for them. And even after all those years and all those viewing of the movie the and still gets to me each time.
