Corpse Bride Review

7 out of 10 Skulls

Again, I am impressed just at how the movie itself looks. It looks AMAZING. Of course, I was one of those freaks who waited in line to get tickets for opening night, which, by the way, I just returned from...

This movie did use a lot of re-hashed material almost directly copied from Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton's all claymation movie that came out in the early 90s, but had a lot of original product which I was pleased with. It was almost like a horrible fairy tale; something you'd find in a really messed-up book.

Victor, voiced by Johnny Depp of course, is the main character in the story. He is to be wed to a woman, Victoria, but gets the jitters and messes up. The priest refuses to perform the ceremony until he memorizes his vows, much to the displeasure of the parents. Victor practices in the woods for hours on end until he finally gets it just right, even going so far as to put the ring on the branch of a seemingly innocent tree...

Good story all in all; the musical scores, written by Danny Elfman, were of course spectacular as usual... The lyrics for the songs were a bit uninspired in my opinion, but whatever. That's not what matters.

Voice acting was wonderfully done. I really appreciated the great job that everyone in the cast did getting into the character and making them "come alive" so to speak. Beautiful animation. Just stunning in apperance. If you liked Nightmare Before Christmas, you'll definately enjoy this movie. If you are a Tim Burton fan, you're probably going to enjoy it. If you are neither and don't like animation at all, don't see the movie.

Good job, Tim Burton. Keep the claymation comming!
