SPLINTER (2008) Review

6 out of 10 Skulls

Interesting little B film which considering it's low budget is very well made.It only runs 79 mins on the dvd version but even then has a slow beginning. What makes the film is the good special effects that does not really on CGI and in fact goes back to the old ways of special effects using rubber, latex and gymnasts and contourisionists to make the unusual unsettling victims of the creature work.

They remind me at times of mangled and hideously contorted zombies. Some good scenes involving these things clamouring at the supermarkrt doors.

Film's lowering body temperature sequence is stretching the credibility of the film a bit and i always put a lower rating on a film which doesn't give or attempt an explanation of what is going on or where this thing comes from, but i must admit it doesn't irritate me so much in this film, and although the film's final scene is a cliche, it leaves  it open for a sequel, which i wouldn't mind seeing  where i'm sure more would be explained. Not a classic but easily watchable.
