Darkness: The Vampire Version Review
Written by: Googopqp I always like a good independent horror film and when I heard about Darkness and how its so gory and what not, I got a bit excited. Now...the question is, did this movie live up to what I thought it was going to be? Was it really all that gory like people were making it out to be? Or is it just a pass/fail movie? Well, it didn't live completely to what I had hoped but god damn, this is a damn fine gore fest! There are some extremely gory scenes, mostly towards the end, that are just so gory and amazing, and for an ultra low budget movie like this its great to see effects like that! Darkness: The Vampire Version is about this guy who is tracking down a vampire for the past couple of days only to see that its ended up in a small town and is killing people off and turning them into vampires. He gathers up with a few survivors and tries to get them to escape the town and wait to look for survivors, but of course they want their friends. So its up to the small group to find the remaining survivors and trying to stop this vampire invasion from spreading! This movie is lots of fun with its mistakes and plot holes and what not. Its funny seeing like every ten minutes an updated time of when sunset or sunrise is coming. And then even though its light out the vampires are running around cause its not SUNRISE yet....to me this was kind of funny :P I really don't know why though. Anyways, the acting is basically what you'd expect from a ultra low budget movie like this, really I can only compare this movie to Dead Next Door in both quality and acting. Its bad acting, and very grainy and low quality but this really only seems to add to movies for me like this. Its movies that I would start off with making, nothing big budget, its got a true spirit and love for what it is trying to make and I like that. There is the main character, who is that blonde dude, who is trying to act like a complete bad ass the ENTIRE movie. He talks in a low voice to sound all tough but really he is a little wussy LOL. Its all the little things like that that were supposed to be serious but were actually kind of funny in their own ways XD. The gore...MY GOD, THE GORE! Its so plentiful at times and the entire movie is just overly bloody and awesome! Although one complaint comes from that, the blood is very light and at times pink....that sucked! But the gore that they showed in the end sequence and scattered around in the other parts were really good and well done for a low budget movie! I also liked the music in this movie, it was good and the metal soundtrack fit really well at times. Nothing boring, it lightened the mood and gave a feeling to the movie that was really good! Now, this here are the things I didn't care much for....It was rather boring through the movie, unless some gore/blood/kill scene was going on. The story really didn't interest me and I found my self spacing off or checking my mail on the computer. Thats really the only thing that I didn't like was the boringness and stuff...and the pink blood at times. But regardless this is a great low budget movie to see! Overall, check this movie out...for sure, if you like low budget gore fests, then you'll really like this movie. Its great! I hope that director Leif Jonker makes a new film soon, that would be kewl to see what they would be like now adays! And also, if you plan to buy this movie MOST DEFINITELY go for the two disc version. MY GOD, the extras are amazing and plentiful and the cover to this movie is very gory. GET THE 2 DISC. I give Darkness: The Vampire Version a 7/10!!!! This is a community member review and not a staff member review. We appreciate and respect the opinions of our readers and are gratefull that they took the time to contribute it.
