Wow is the best way to sum up Jennifers Body. The movie stars Megan Fox and is written by Diablo Cody who did JUNO which starred Ellen Page and is one of my favorite movies. I even did an editorial on how I thought Ellen Page should have starred in Jennifers Body... I was that excited for Diablo Cody's newest film. ( Megan Fox Got Naked but Ellen Page Would have Nailed it:  )

JUNO was smart, witty and thought provoking and set the film world on fire. It also put Diablo Cody on the map as an up and coming filmmaker. For those reasons I was very excited for Jennifers Body and was even willing to overlook the blatant casting of Megan Fox for sex appeal over substance. It is however safe to say that Jennifers Body is what you might expect, Sugar coated puff with sex appeal and no substance. Megan Fox was cast to draw in the teen boys and it may or may not have worked but its safe to say it was money well wasted for true blue horror fans.

Jennifers Body is a debacle. As I had feared the film is an engine for Megan Fox to show off how hot she is and flip off smug one liners like 'your jealous like lime green jello'. Megan Fox's horrible acting skills are not improved even with Diablo Cody's 'smart' and 'smug' writing.

The movie is a combination of flat writing, bad acting, bad editing and is easily one of the worst horror films made in a very long time. When I saw it yesterday in theaters there were 4 other people in the theater and it seems all the folks who left their seats empty had the last laugh. I should have gone to see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. It would have been as scary and enlightened as this film was.

Jennifers Body is not scary or funny and its writing is about as flat as it can get. The only reason I am even giving the film a 4 out of 10 is for the first 10 minutes which were fantastic. The first 10minutes also did not have Megan Fox in it. The remainder of the film was cliche, and flat. It never managed for a second to find its timing with jokes falling flat, the writing going nowhere and the scares... well they werent scary.

As frustrated as I have been at recent George Romero movies I am even more frustrated with Diablo Cody. Is she going to be a one hit wonder? How did she manage to create Juno and then follow it up with Jennifers Body.

Jennifers Body comes off as Diablo Cody trying to fit in. The movie evolves around Megan Fox and offers nothing else. It comes off as a sore excuse for Diablo Cody to hang out and make friends with Megan Fox so she can establish herself in Hollywood and connect to a 'hip younger audience'. Somebody should have pointed out that Megan Fox is not the holy grail of box office draw.. Michael Bay afterall created her career.

I dont see anyone taking much from this film or enjoying it. Gone is the smart and witty writing and in its place is Megan Fox, cliche scares and dialogue befitting a Uwe Boll film. Overall the movie is flat, boring and not worth your money. Avoid this film at all costs.

I want to close with the fact that I am still a huge Diablo Cody fan and I still hope that she will continue developing witting and intelligent films like JUNO. Every filmmaker makes mistakes and has their failures and hopefully Diablo will learn from Jennifers Body and work to develop her next master piece.
