AntiChrist Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More Antichrist (2009) Movie Review
7 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: Aidan13

Wow…that is all I can really say about this film to sum it up. Probably one of the most thought provoking films cinematically that I have seen in a while, defenantly one of the more disturbing films I have viewed in quite some time.  I’m not going to get in to plot detail too much as that would ruin this film for everyone…you need to go into it not knowing what your in store for.

The film starts with the two main characters making very obviously passionate love.  Its shot in such a way that you are instantly absorbed in to the beauty of this film.  While Mom and Dad are busy, their young and only son whom is a toddler manages to break free from his crib and fall out a 5th story window which was left open in their apartment.  You see him hit the pavement below in slow motion and you know he did not survive the fall.  This sets up the catalyst for the rest of the film…

I should mention that the film is divided into chapters which appear in that format on the screen…it’s a bit jarring but I know some directors like this approach i.e. Quentin Tarintino.  This film is in the vein of a horror movie in the sense that it leaves you feeling uneasy and disturbed, especially towards the end.  The film is graphic from a sexual standpoint and the violence itself…I was especially shocked at scenes involving scissors and the female genitalia…freaking crazy!

The film as a whole is very atmospheric and spooky at certain times but there are no “jump scares”…this film is beyond that…its far more sophisticated in the horror that it delivers.  Worth a viewing just for how the film is composed…and the shocking ending which will leave you wondering what the hell you just watched for nearly two hours…this film turned out WAY different than I expected.
