Deep in space a ship is off drifting carrying the remaining crew of a chance to put survivors on a new planet. 60,000 people have been sent but most all of them are sleeping or dead....Two members of flight crew 5 wake up, one of which is Dennis Quaid the other Ben Foster, and can't remember anything, Dennis Quaid's character, Payton, sends the other out, Bower, to be a scout and find the generator of the ship so they can find a way to survive. But they can't remember anything, so while the truth is revealed and Bower finds out the secrets of what is going on he meets up with other survivors and its up to them to find a way off the ship and for a chance at survival! But the truth can be damaging and anyone can be sent into a state of Pandorum.....
Pandorum is pretty much all inside the people's heads. They kind of go insane and kill people, it makes them delirious and hulicinate and they go crazy, but this doesn't really come up in the film very much, more towards the end. The whole movie is really a monster movie similar to alien, but these are mutated humans hunting survivors. But these things are fast and very lethal....there are suvivors scattered about the ship and they all seem to know little about anything going on, except survival, and thats basically what this movie is, find out the truth....fight....live....get out of there!
Now I'm not a big sci-fi fan and sometimes sci-fi movies are hard to review because they are hard to understand. Now this movie isn't hard to understand but you'll miss a lot on your first viewing, to me thats a good thing, you can rewatch the movie and find out stuff you missed along the way!
This movie is most definitely a sci-fi horror film and they try to get you to jump at almost every chance they get, but its really just an in your face noise in random places. But they do manage to set up for some good jumps or scares, whatever you call them, that will probably get some of the average movie goers, but for us horror fans its nothing but noise :P.
The acting in the movie is alright, I guess, there are a few kewl characters though. There is this black guy who comes in later in the movie that was pretty damn funny a FEW times, and theres this asian guy who is kind of kick ass at times....Dennis Quaid does his typical acting, and he isn't bad. Ben Foster being the lead, was pretty good as well!
This is not a violent or gory movie, there are few scenes of really anything happening, which was surprising because judging from the trailer, this movie just goes the total different direction. You think its gunna about Pandorum setting in on people and all this stuff happening, but its really a monster movie on a ship. Weird, but oh well, it ended up pretty good. Anyways, the gore they show is just all right, nothing too special but there are some fun and kewl deaths scenes of mutated humans!
The effects, or the CGI, is pretty uneven at times, to me anyways. It was pretty bad at spots but then alright at others, I don't know, maybe this was just me!
Overall, Pandorum turns out to be an interesting and rewatchable sci-fi flick with a few worth while violent scenes and an interesting enough story to keep most people's interest. If you a sci-fi fan you'll like this movie more, but if you find sci-fi stupid or boring, then this is definitely not the movie for you! Its not bad, and I actually kind of liked it! I give Pandorum a 7/10!!!!
