Frankenweenie (1984) Review
Written by: Gardenofstone10 I can't believe no one has reviewed this on the site yet. Starring Shelley Duvall and Daniel Stern, this was one of the early films that launched Tim Burton into a world of his own. Quick plot: Young Victor (Frankenstein is his last name) has a dog he loves more than anything, Sparky. Sparky gets hit by a car, thus ending his doggy life. Victor isn't happy with this so he digs up Sparky and uses a lightning machine to bring Sparky back to live. After the neighbors start to realize that Sparky is a zombie dog, they try to get Sparky and kill him. It leads to the conclusion of the movie, amen. This was a Disney movie but it was before Disney was as strict as they are today. There is a significant amount of dying/zombies/blood/peril in the movie. What I like best about this is that it's short. It's 29 minutes long. Disney is yet to release this on its own other than VHS, but it's on the new edition of The Nightmare Before Christmas DVD/Blu Ray. A note, too, it's in black and white. To save money and add the illusion of the older Universal monster movies, Burton put this one in B&W. Probably good, too because of the blood. Disney has played this on the Disney Channel, but a slightly watered down version. If this were in color, good chance we wouldn't have a copy of this today. Pick up the Nightmare Blu Ray/DVD and watch this, you'll love it. Peace. This is a community member review and not a staff member review.
