Wrong Turn 3 Review

4 out of 10 Skulls

Wrong Turn 3 was one my most anticipated horror movies of 2009. I loved the first and I thought the second was cheesy fun so I was looking forwards to the third. But after watching Wrong Turn 3 I’m very disappointed. I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece, but I was expecting it to be a fun slasher flick like the first two. But, it wasn’t. It’s just a poorly made movie with bad CGI effects.

Plot: A group of friends heads for the woods, only to end up on the menu for a cannibalistic mutant known as Three Finger. Only Fonda manages to survive, and she's soon joined by a truckload of escaped convicts also fleeing the ravenous freak. Throw in a cache of stolen money to distract the escapees and an unsuspecting search party, and it's a virtual smorgasbord for Three Finger.

I want to say Wrong Turn 3 wasn’t a complete waste of time, but unfortunately it was. I just wasted 92 minutes of my life. Like the first two Wrong Turn movies, Wrong Turn 3 starts out pretty good. In the first five minutes we see some nice boobs and a couple of good kills. After seeing the first five minutes I thought I was in for a fun ride, but the movie quickly turns to crap. The only other good things I can say about the movie is that it unfolds at a fast pace and some of the kills were good. But after a while they start to get old.

Wrong Turn 3 has so many problems I don’t have time to list them all, so I’ll just list the ones that bothered me the most. The first thing I noticed was the dialogue. The dialogue was atrocious and I’m pretty sure the script was written by a ten year old kid. Sometimes terrible dialogue actually helps a movie, for example “Gutterballs”. But that’s not the case, in this movie it just sounds stupid and not funny. The next thing I hated was the CGI gore effects. The CGI effects in Wrong Turn 3 were so bad they make the CGI effects in “Midnight Meat Train” look good. Thankfully, not all of the kills were CGI. The kills that were done the old fashioned way looked pretty cool. To bad they didn’t do all of the gore effects that way. Another thing that bothered me was how stupid and unrealistic the characters were. I like horror movies that are complete bullshit, but I hate it when a movie insults my intelligence and that’s exactly what Wrong Turn 3 did. And then when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I see the ending. I’m not going to give it away, but let’s just say it was like the rest of the movie, stupid.

Going into Wrong Turn 3 I was hoping to see a fun slasher movie with good kills. Instead I saw a CGI filled movie that was a waste of time. If you want to see a good modern backwoods slasher I recommend Hatchet or Deep In the Woods. But if you’re dead set on seeing Wrong Turn 3, you might want to rent it before you buy it.
