Land of the Dead Review

Why is this the greatest zombie movie ever made? The reasons are simple. Number 1. George A. Romero directed it. 2. Its a great view of the way politics seem to be ran today as well as a different take on our social state in some forms. Last but not the least, it was to me the most realistic of the zombie flicks. While that statement may think that I am indeed insane I BELIEVE IT TO BE TRUE, I will come back to defend this later on but let me go over the other things that made this movie so great.
The acting in this movie was well handled, Dennis Hopper was fun and knew exactly when to turn up the heat as a bad guy. While I enjoyed everyones else's acting the best in my opinion came from John Leguizomo, he conveyed what its really like to be someone who wants to reach out and want more yet everytime you think you have got it made somethings happens and just knocks you right back down to where you where before. The Special FX where well done.
Loved it all but I do have one small complaint about the CGI on the supposed headless guy while it was fun to see it was extremely blurry and probably could have used better detail to look more relistic but hey when ur making a zombie opus on asmall budget as George did I can understand the faults for this and can get by on it. I still like the scene just could have used a better touch up. George;s directing was great, best yet I'd say. As well as the Cinamatography and sounde effects.
The music really brought out the apocilyptic mood this movie conveyed yet knew when to make it light hearted and upbeat when needed. Now why do I think this is a great zombie movie? The realism of its characters especially John Leguizomo's.. In my opinion this is how people would act in a bad situation and you would find your hero's and villians. peopel will probably complain about this not being better than The Dawn of the Dead remake or the classics Dead films, I will just have to disagree. Night of the dead set the standard for zombie flicksa nd a eye for racism, dawn set the standard for what kind of social satire can be put in a horror film especially consumerism, day of the dead, well had the weakest storybut showed how bad militarism can become corrupt and more inhuman than the zombies that attack.
But Land of the Dead showed a deeper story on how ,One man with too much power can lead things down the drain and making people no better than the dead themselves, this showed a great take on social satire like Dawn did but in a different light, a more political take and doing something such as that is probably hard for any director to do but Geaorge pulls it off in a fun, sometimes creepy but very intelligent manner. A movie that all zombie fans should enjoy.
