DEAD SNOW (2008) Review

Most of the horror film's featuring German soldier zombies from world war 2 ( Shock Waves, Oasis of the Zombies, Zombie Lake, The Frozen Dead ( this one i have but haven't seen yet) are pretty dire, this Norweigian made little horror film is easily the best so far. I do find the film slow moving though, for over half an hour, very little happens and the film has a less than ninty minutes running time, but once it gets going this is good fun, and has some good gory scenes.
Film is also full of references to other horror films and is made by a crew that obviously loves horror and also has a sense of humour, to me film was at times reminiscent of " Evil Dead 2"," Bad Taste" and even Monty Python. The zombies can move quick if they want or shamble and they have intelligence.Film is in Norweigian with English subtitles, but it doesn't really matter because there is no problem following the plot.
The zombies seem a bit muddled in their ways of combat, some bite, some fight with knives, and you never see if anybody bitten by them on the arm or leg would become a zombie themselves, the indication is that they would, as one of the leading players cuts his own arm off with a chainsaw ( a la Bruce Campbell) to avoid being infected. It's all rather silly but is enjoyable for zombie horror fans.Pity the film takes a while to get going and i thought the ending while not bad was a bit of a let down but that's just my opinon. A bit over rated but enjoyable overall.
