Dawn of the Dead Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

this is easily the best example of a sequel eqeuling or surpassing its predecessor. i am a massive zombie nut and hope to direct a zombie flick myself one day and this is the movie i have to thank for it. its satirical and pyschological as well as scary and comedic all at once. for ten years after its release there was nothing like it seen in western cinema.

the story portrays four people from very different backgrounds surviving together in a shopping mall as the world outside falls apart and the zombies masss at the mall gates.

this movie begins to hint at the ''bub'' and ''big daddy'' zombies and the theorum that zombies still retain all there cognitive abilities and most memories so they can still learn to use there higher functions again.

this isnt just another ''outnumbered by the enemy'' horror in this film romero makes you feel sympathetic for the zombie, becuase they are us. and they are just running on impulses, never before has a director made his audience feel truly sad about the villains situations. and thats becuase we could all be them. psychological and ,oh, so cool so very cool.

the gore is done well, however the idea of painting someone a ''sky blue'' to make them undead does seem laughable nowadays. the sound however is a joy, from the 70's 'action' music which fits perfectly with the scene were they move the trucks. to the silent zombies of this film which are much more effective in instilling fear than those ''hissing'' zombies of the 'remake'' of which we should never speak of again... finally theres the music of the actual mall which sticks with you ,all you need to here is the da-da-dada-da-da-da at the start and the memories flood back, i only saw this film for the first time a year ago and ive seen it so many times now im sick of it. heh-heh, thats how good it is.

this IS the best made zombie film ever made. no question. two more movies down the line and romero still hasnt surpassed it. if you love zombies but havent seen this watch it NOW, GO TO THE VIDEO STORE AND RENT IT!.

because youll never see undead done so well again.
