I am not a fan of Wes Craven's original 1972 shocker but as many of you know i am not a fan of remakes ethier but when i heard that they were going to remake this, i did not feel outraged , as to me the original is cheap and also very uneven mixing gore and geniune nastiness with unnecessacery comic moments.

The much praised remake was to me a better made film obviously but still a disapointment. It starts off promisingly showing the villainous gang and their brutality and if film had continued like this, it could have been a disturbing and hard hitting film outdoing the original in impact. It in fact chickens out most of the rest of the way, as many would expect from a mainstream film, and is nowhere as nasty or cruel as the original, the only scene it outdoes the original in is the protracted rape scene .

krug and his gang never seem as nasty as in the original and everything involving the girls and the final fate of the unfortunate girls is dealt with too quickly. The acting well being acceptable but nothing great and for me i didn't really have much emotion for the characters, which is a failing of the film to me, perhaps it's me being hardened to horror films or just my mood when watching.at least it didn't include the idiot policemen in this new version. it's ok but no classic to me, where it had the potential to be one.
