The Machine Girl Review

7 out of 10 Skulls

Now, based off recommendations from a friend who is really into asian horror cinema, I decided to watch this movie....The Machine Girl. He said that its quite like Tokyo Gore Police, which is a movie I didn't much care for (for some odd reason). So going into this movie I was just expecting a mindless blood bath of gore and silliness...and I got that, but I also got something I wasn't quite expecting...and that was more of a revenge story mixed in!

This movie wasn't confusing like some asian films and is really just a straight up revenge film. A college girl becomes a killing machine after her brother is murdered by a Yakuza's son. She seeks revenge on all the people on a list that her brother left and she hunts them down one by one. But, they get this girl and they begin to torture her, and eventually they cut off one of her arms...but she gets away....and she becomes something they couldn't believe....and that is a bad ass machine gun carrying psycho looking for her final revenge....but will she get it?

This movie was fun! Especially the whole ending of the movie. I thought it was really kewl! Apart from some mild scenes of bad CGI this movie has really good effects. The gore is over the top and insane and is just fun to watch!

This movie stars a lot of people I don't recognize and that is usually for the better. I don't like going into movies knowing everyone in the movie sometimes, because that can get in the way of the movie (if that makes any sense!). But it is directed by Noboru Iguchi who did some movies like Cat-Eyed Boy, Evil Guy, and Maiben (according to IMDB).

I think one of the things that sets this movie a bit higher than Tokyo Gore Police, for me, was that it wasn't just a bunch of random gore scenes mixed into a plot of incoherrentness taht gives you a headache if you think about it....although tahts not always a bad thing ;)...anyways, this movie was more just straight up revenge with some really fun and good gore scenes and lots of action...but bad CGI.

The movie is subtitled, like it should be, and is presented in almost a slow paced manner. This may be harder to believe coming from a movie like this, but it was more slower paced than you'd expect. You may not really notice that much, but for some reason I did seem to notice this a bit. The movie cares for the story about as much as the gore and that makes a good balance between the two for you to get into the movie with thinking a bit (enphasis on the A BIT) while being entertained by the action and gory killings. Although....the movie does get alittle weird with some of the stuff and the story is of course a bit muffled at times. Hard to get whats going on type of thing. And there are some nasty kills....and I'm saying this in a GOOD way. Some of the scenes were clappers. I was sitting there watching with a smile on my face while one of the characters gets a knife through the back of their head and start puking blood and what looks like something yellowish green into a pot with a head in it.....its just stuff like that thats funny and clap worthy....you'd have to see ;)

Overall, if you like Asian shock/extreme cinema then you'd probably get a kick out of this, also if your a gore hound you will as well. Its a fun entertaining film that I'd recommend checking out. Although the story is just typical stuff you've seen before its still worth watching just for the hell of it. Did I mention there are ninjas? I give The Machine Girl a 7/10!!!!
