Against The Dark Review

"Against the Dark" is Seagal's 'z'-grade version of "Blade". It's bad, but you knew it would be. The former badass Akido master gets top billing, but he's not on screen that much. And when he is, he's mainly walking (yes, walking) with his group of zombie killers. I know what you're thinking, zombies? Yes, I stated that correctly. Just like "Blood: The Last Vampire", the title is a bit misleading. With that film, demons were called vampires. And in this movie, zombies are called vampires. Very strange. It doesn't matter really because the film sucks more than a vampire ever could.

The movie presents a very typical zombie scenario. Survivors band together to safely travel through an apocalyptic city filled with zombies. Enter, Tao (Seagal) and his gang of vampire killers who just want to save as many citizens as they can. Tao is a master of the blade, but he doesn't show much skill. He mainly just swings his sword around in a very simple way and kills the zombies/vampires in the process. It's his protege Taggart (played by American Gladiator's Tanoai Reed), whose a bit more physical when it comes to killing. Reed actually looks a little bit like The Rock, and he was also in "Constantine" for anybody who thinks he looks familar. Hopefully, he'll get better projects in the future. In addtion to Reed, there are also two girls in Seagal's possee who are hot. The hottest of the two gets killed right before she enters an elevator. Shame.

The best thing about the movie is the gore which is actually quite good for such a low, low budget film. The fights are poor and the acting is laughable especially from Seagal who gets the movie's best line: "I'm the motherf-----, that's going to do you what you did them for so long". Forget, "Go Ahead, Make My Day". That's the heroic one-liner you'll want to hear for years to come. Seriously, the movie is good for more than a few laughs. So, bake a pizza, put in the movie, invite your best friend over and have a good time. That's the best way you can enjoy "Against The Dark".
