A Perfect Getaway (2009) Review
Written by: Gardenofstone10
A Perfect Getaway was one of those movies that most people didn't see because they either hate Steve Zahn, hate Milla Jovovich or hate the fact that they are a couple in a horror movie. Milla has proved herself in The Fourth Kind and the Resident Evil movies and Steve Zahn, though an annoying man, was in Joy Ride and that was a pretty good movie. Throw in Timothy Olyphant and we have ourselves a set up for a good movie.
Newlyweds Zahn and Jovovich go on a honeymoon to Hawaii. After hearing about a murder that happened, they decide to continue on their quest for an amazing honeymoon. Stumbling across a few couples here and there, they end up with Timothy Olyphant and his girlfriend. Throughout the entire course of the film, both couples are questioning if the other couple is the killers. That's where I stop talking about the movie.
This is one of those plot twisting movies and a lot of people complained about it being predictable. I was able to pick up on the curves but it still didn't take away from the story or even the suspense.
To my very surprise, the acting was great. The level of believability kept my eyes glued onto the television set.
The setting was also perfect. The key to a good suspense horror movie is a setting that is very beautiful but at the same time it's open and secluded. The movie takes us to parts of Hawaii that you need a permit to go to meaning less and less people. There are no roads and no electricity. Just mother nature and newlyweds.
Now for you bloodthirsty horror fans out there.....you may not like this movie. There is blood and gore but it's to a minimum and to me, that adds to the story. This is a sound enough storyline where you can relate to the characters, wish you were there, and when the time comes for it, you feel like you're running with them. No cheesy effects need to grab you with this one.
I would like to relate this movie to Wolf Creek and Turistas. If you enjoyed those, you will enjoy this. Well I'll shut up so you can go and rent A Perfect Getaway! Peace.
