Masters Of Horror Dance of the Dead Review

7 out of 10 Skulls

I missed this Masters of Horror installment  when it first came out. So I decided to give it rent… The plot of the movie surrounds a post World War Three doomsday environment.  Our main character Peggy played by Jessica Lowndes witnessed her friends die at her childhood birthday party due to a chemical/biological weapon attack and it left her mother and sister unharmed (though very emotionally scarred).  Flash forward ten or so years and her sister has left home venturing into the city that her mother states is a haven for destruction and should have been burned to the ground years ago. One of the most freakishly cool scenes of the movie involves the introduction of a rogue band of thieves, headed by Jak, a dangerous sort of anti-hero . Jak and his partner hold up an old couple at gunpoint and they don’t want money.  Trust me, it’s one of the stranger hold-up scenes you will see and after viewing it, you will be thankful for the contribution.

So, Jak and Peggy’s path collides at the diner where she works.   Jak is a guy who has seen the world and despite its horror, has managed to survive.  Peggy is a girl who has been so tightly watched that she desperately wants to see the world and take some chances.  Peggy accompanies the group on their way to The Doom Room to deliver a package to a man known as The MC.  ( Robert Englund) at his Dance of the Dead club, where sex, drugs and zombies are always on hand for a good time and who should our heroine find that’s right her drugged zombie sister!

The nudity in this movie is actually pretty well filmed.. and the acting is good. Especially Robert Englund as the seranged MC of the night club.. but there is just one thing really lacking, and that is action.  Fifty-four minutes go by rather quickly but only in the last five minutes does zombie action take place.  There was very little gore and lots of human on zombie sex , which could have been edited out for just a taste of a zombie attack.(  Personally I love the zombie dancers int heir sheer blue gowns.. ) And Ihave to admit  it was interesting to watch Robert Englund get a blowjob from a zombie…  So I think it’s worth a watch on a rainy day or in my case a day when there is nothing on television and the sun is too bright outside.
