Book of Eli Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More Book of Eli Review
8 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: Meh

What do you get when you combine Doomsday cannibals with Kevin Costners The Postman and Mad Max? You get The Book of Eli. Its bloody, its gruesome and its action packed but its also got alot of depth and character. Although its not The Road, and its not Doomsday its definitely a fun action flick with lots of action, plenty of gore and a little message to go along with it.

In the not-too-distant future, some 30 years after the final war, a solitary man walks across the wasteland that was once America. Empty cities, broken highways, seared earth--all around him, the marks of catastrophic destruction. There is no civilization here, no law. The roads belong to gangs that would murder a man for his shoes, an ounce of water...or for nothing at all. But they're no match for this traveler.

One of the key things I loved about Book of Eli was its overall look and feel. The film was beautifully filmed and you felt from the very first moment that you really and truly were caught up in an apocalyptic world. Combine that with some fantastic casting and you have a great action-thriller that although not horror by the definition of the world shows the horrors of a world after the apocalypse and is sure to please most of you horror buffs looking for something a little different.

Denzel Washington does a great job as a ‘wanderer’ on a mission and Gary Oldman delivers as the dark and intelligent leader of scavengers who kill and rape first... and rarely ask any questions. Mila Kunis adds some great eye candy but also brings alot to her role as Eli’s only friend in the wasteland. Mila really stood out to me because she proved that although she is drop dead gorgeous she really has a ton of potential  as an actress and really should be given more opportunities for these kinds of deep and thought provoking roles.

Book of Eli is a bit slow at times, but also packed full of violence at others. It has a very heavy religious message which is frankly a bit overbearing but overall it is what it is... a fantastic apocalyptic tale that is far superior to I Am Legend but not quite Mad Max. If you like apocalyptic fare.. check it out this weekend!
