It’s kind of like “Descent” in space, and I liked it! Its funny, my taste seems to always run in the opposite direction from anyone else as I really kind of enjoyed Pandorum. Granted it’s not the best sci-fi film but I liked the story, the action, the ending, the doom and gloom look of the ship, oh and the nasty ass creatures! Oh and throw in a sexy chick that can kick some serious ass and you’re in for a good time!
It does tend to have a lot of elements from other films but that’s half the fun. A space mission is launched on a 123-year voyage to find the “next” planet earth that will sustain life and start a new civilization. Go green! Well, as usual things go wrong and a lone survivor, Bower (Ben Foster) wakes from a cyber sleep dazed and confused and has no clue as to what is going on. His memory comes back in bits and pieces just before another member of the crew Lt. Payton (Dennis Quaid) wakes from his slumber. Needless to say their trapped in the hull and Bower decides to find a way out scurrying about through narrow and very cramped vents. Eventually he runs into some nasty creatures, literally. Are they some genetic mutation or have they evolved from the rest of the crew? He’s not alone though and finds a couple more people on board as Payton continues to map out Bowers path to the reactor. See, if they get to the reactor in time they can restore it and guide the ship onward to its destination, all the while battling the nasties and slowly succumbing to some mental madness, ie Pandorum.
Like I said in the beginning I liked the overall look and feel of the ship. It’s dark, decrepit, endless and just pretty damn cool I thought. The creatures are nasty and something you might find in Resident Evil and run like the zombies in 28 Days Later. LOL! Lots of CGI there and it’s ok this isn’t trying to be an Oscar winner. Throw in a few jumps here and there and you have yourself a fun space horror flick!
Overall I really enjoyed this. I DON”T want to see a Pandorum 2 though this ship has sailed!
