Babysitter Wanted Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More Babysitter Wanted (2008) Review
9 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: Gardenofstone10

I never heard about this movie until Goon told everyone about how amazing it was.  Then I read his review.  I wanted so badly to see this movie.  Pulling some strings, I found a copy and just finished viewing it.  He said it was one of the best horror films of the decade and I'm going to have to happily agree with him.

The plot follows young college student, Angie and her new babysitting job.  It's in the country and it's to babysit this strange and silent boy, Sam.  Throughout the first half of the movie, we follow Angie on her normal life both at day and night and both have this bald man stalking her.  She only ever notices him in her peripherals and he's never there for more than a couple of moments.

We eventually get to Friday night, the babysitting night.  After being followed for the whole week, she's become quite timid and paranoid and lets that get the best of her in the big house all alone at night.  Then the confrontation begins.

I am going to stop outlining the plot there because the film has a mid movie twist that totally caught me off guard and I've been picking up on twists for so long.

The first thing I noticed about this movie and luckily it stuck throughout, was how well it was paced.  We are given a 90 minute movie here so the timeframe seems small to introduce some characters, throw the plot twist, then reintroduce the characters in a new light but this movie pulls it off without seeming rushed or full of plot holes.

This is a movie that isn't working off of a huge studio budget, it doesn't have many actors that we've seen before and because of that, this movie works.  We're able to meet these actors and actresses for the first time and really feel them out.  Believe me, there is range involved here.  To put icing on the cake, Bill Moseley (of TCM 2 and House of 1,000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects fame) is in this movie as the sheriff and he's amazing, as always.  A veteran actor like him really solidifies the integrity of the film.

My favorite part about this movie was the score.  It's not flooded with pop hits on the radio....it goes back to the good old days of suspense movie making with just eerie instrumental music.  Emphasis on the forte.  Reminded me of the original Halloween movie by John Carpenter.  Just eerie music that clouds you up with mystery....you don't know whether hearing the music is an omen or a relief.

Staggering in at my last point to touch on, the kid who plays the little boy, Sam.  Kid actors are either going to disappoint or really just shine through.  This kid, shines through.  He nailed this role and reminded me of the boy who played Danny in The Shining.  Cute and innocent looking but just this intense glare in his eyes leaves you wondering.

All in all, this is a highlight of my year and I cannot recommend it more.  Please watch this and with it being a smaller movie, tell your friends.  Spread the word.  Peace.
