Valentine (2001) Review by Lilith

Think 'Scream'... only not as good.... or as original... and far more predictable.

Valentine's Day is nearing and a group of beautiful young women start receiving threatening cards signed "J.M.". One by one the girls are killed off; one man's revenge for the way the spoiled bitches treated him in middleschool.. The moral of the story? Don't be a bully or you may get your comeuppance when that geek becomes a serial killer.

What drew me to this movie in the first place was that it starred David Boreanaz (Buffy) and Katherine Heigel (Roswell), both of whom I adore. Having loved Heigel's strong character Isabel in Roswell I really struggled to believe her as a victim in this. She wasn't a good casting choice as just another bimbo running scared. I kept expecting her to turn around and kick the killer's ass.

I didn't have particularly high expectations of this movie - just another slasher flick... and that's pretty much what it is. The characters aren't particularly likeable, not even Kate (Marley Shelton) who is the movie's "good girl". She lacks any real spunk and you don't really give a damn whether she lives or dies.

The kills are predictable and unoriginal, the ending is incredibly easy to pick - they attempt to throw in a twist at the end but you don't buy it for a millisecond.

Only recommended for big fans of David Boreanaz.... and even then I'd recommend watching a season of Angel instead.
