Here is a movie brought to us by the Pang Brothers, of "The Eye" fame.  It begins as a mostly typical Asian horror,  when an authoress begins writing a new novel about the supernatural.  She hears strange cries through the phone, finds long black strands of hair on her kitchen counter, and believes she has seen a ghost in her apartment.  After an encounter in her elevator with possibly the creepiest little girl in history and her equally creepy grandmother, she realizes that she has unwittingly entered the alternate dimension of the "Abandoned".

This world she has created/entered is full of all things abandoned in our world, unwritten books, deceased people that no one remembers, very old and rusty carnival rides and of course, aborted fetuses.  I have now viewed this movie 3 times in a week, and it's just an amazingly beautiful movie, especially a particular scene involving a ferris wheel, viking ship and whole lot of streamers and confetti. The acting is fab, especially from the child who saves her from some zombie-like creatures who have freakishly long necks....it's really eerie. The score in this movie is perfectly haunting, it adds to the atmosphere as I find most Asian horror does it.

This is far from a typical movie, yet it is not completely original (what is these days?) but somehow the Pang Brothers have managed to make it feel like a fresh concept.

I highly recommend anyone watch this, it's not strictly horror, more horror/fantasy, as there really isn't any gore involved.  It will still get under your skin and into your mind.  The only reason I took one point off is because upon multiple viewings, I thought some of the CG was a little overdone, but only some.
