Frontière (s) Review

Frontier(s) is a movie written and directed by Xavier Gens (Hitman) and starring Karina Testa Aurélien Wiik Patrick Ligardes David Saracino Maud Forget Samuel Le Bihan Estelle Lefébure. This is another one of the brutal french movies that have been coming out these past years like Haute-Tension, Martyrs and A l’interieur.
During a riot following a election, a gang of crooks commits a robbery. Yasmina, played by Karina Testa, is on here way to get an abortion right after the robbery. While trying to get away, in the middle of the riot, one of them gets shot. They split up in two groups and leave for the Luxembourg border. They stop at a motel run by a depraved family called the Von Geisler clan. When I say depraved, I mean one of the weirdest and balls-out craziest famillies I’ve seen. Basically, what you have here is Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a crazy cannibal nazi family instead of a family of crazy cannibal rednecks. The clan consists of three brothers, 3 sisters, one of which is kind of deformed, and the father. When the first group arrive at the hotel, they are treated like royalty but that doesn’t last long. They soon realise that they need to get out, fast. Unfortunatly for them, that wont happen. When the second group arrives, Yasmina and Alex, that you understand that the family are neo-nazis. While Alex looks for the bathroom, he sees his friend hanging upsidedown like a pig. He tries to let him free but is unable too. When he realises this, he runs to get Yasmina and get the hell out. But again, the family captures them and puts them in a cell. The plan is to use Yasmina as a vessel to extend the family tree. This is when things start to get extremely gory and fun.
Let’s start with the best part of the movie, the gore. All I can say is that there is lots of it. This movie is brutal, and they didn’t skim on blood either. The characters are all awesome and important to the story. The best characters are the odd-ball family members. They hurt and kill people with a wide array of weapons and contraptions. As for the acting, well it’s very good for a horror movie, the actors getting killed arent 1 dimentional and you actually care what happens to them, and the family makes you want to kill them yourself. This is my favorite of the french movies coming out. It’s less psychological than Haute-Tension, and less stressful than A l’interieur but more relentless and brutal and for some odd reason, more believable. The pace is unrelenting with no slow moments.
Theres a lot more to the story than I revealed but there’s so much going on that it would’ve taken too long to explain everything. But if you love horror, which is a given since you’re reading a review about a horror movie, then do yourselves a favour and go get this movie NOW!
