Misery (1990) Review

8 out of 10 Skulls

We all know this story so I won't bother talking too much about it.  However, I've never seen this movie until just the other day.  I knew the story and I knew certain scenes (the feet and the hammer) but seeing it for the first time just made me happy.

I'm a huge Stephen King fan and love seeing his work translated to the silver screen.  This movie was particularly special to me because I love it when actors/actresses go out of their comfort zone and do something daring with a role.  Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain, Diane Lane in Untraceable, etc.....and to see Kathy Bates in this one being this absolutely psychotic woman hell bent on killing herself for love of an author just blows me away.

As good of a job Kathy Bates did as delivering us maniacal mayhem, James Caan did just as good of a job as being an in pain world famous author.  Confined to his bed, Caan had to rely on his face, emotions and ability to execute dialog to make this role not only believable, but unique.

If you haven't seen this movie, then please remove the rock over your head and go to Blockbuster.  Peace.
