The Crazies (2010) Review

8 out of 10 Skulls

Three actors made this movie even better than it would have been with nobodies: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell and Joe Anderson.  Timmy Olyphant obviously of Scream and Hitman fame, Radha Mitchell from Silent Hill and Joe Anderson stole the show from Across the Universe.  Together they slip into roles that fit them perfectly.

This movie doesn't shy away from much.  The movie starts with a quick preview of what is to come and then goes back to before IT happens.  Without going too deeply into the plot and progression of the story let it be said that kids die, women die, men die.  People go CRAZY, haha.

The movie is a remake of a George A Romero movie and it pretty much retells the story in a more modern day bioterror feel but keeping true to Romero's distaste for the government.  You see secrets being held from citizens, deception, violence and of course, the big picture (see the movie and you'll know).

I felt there was the right amount of violence/gore in this movie.  I was worried that the acting/story would make the movie be overly violent and luckily, I was wrong.  Of course, there still is a very good amount of violence...lots of head shots!!  However, there is this lurking feeling of unease throughout the last half of the movie.

Overall, the movie impressed me to the point where I have faith in remakes yet again.  If you haven't yet had the pleasure of seeing this one, please do yourself a favor and go rent it.  I can't promise you'll love it as much as I did, but you'll come out saying it's better than any other remake you've seen lately.  Peace.
