Predators Movie Review
Written by: Googopqp Predators, the new film produced by Robert Rodriguez and directed by Nimrod Antal, is an action packed testosterone driven action horror that literally drop you into the film in a matter of seconds. Predators follows a group of people fighting for survival in an unknown world from an enemy far superior in both weaponry and tactics. Its the Predators jungle and these people are the game being hunted! I want to start off by saying that from the trailers of this movie I was basically sold. I'm a big fan of Robert Rodriguez and the cast of good familiar actors was refreshing to see for a reboot of the Predator franchise, but so much could also go wrong. But overall this is a very fun, fast paced, bloody ride that stays true to the original while trying some of its own new ideas. It works in most aspects but also doesn't really have many surprises, just the basic one-by-one style thats predictable to the end, but its still fucking fun so who cares. :P Director Nimrod Antal, who's filmography includes Vacancy and Armored, does a good job in creating more of a film of its own rather than cashing in on the Predator look. You really don't see them until halfway into the movie and this is a good thing because its not like the movie is saying, "Here is another Predator movie, enjoy" now its sort of saying, "Here is a movie based on the Predators" which for newer audiences now they don't know what to expect in the first 5 minutes, like some remakes/reboots/sequels tend to do. Anyways, Adrien Brody leads as this big tough guy along with Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Laurence Fishburne, and Walton Goggins (and Derek Mears according to IMDB, he was one of the Predators). I mentioned these names (which makes up like 80% of the cast) because they were the familiars of this film, but the whole cast for the most part did a good job and the lead roles got into the characters and Brody and Fishburne most in particular really got into their characters. You don't see Brody as the "bad ass" very often and in some ways it works but it others it doesn't, he just doesn't come off as tough :P Now to the movie, Does it stand to the original? Yes it does, its not superior in most ways, and is actually not as gory/bloody (like most remakes surprisingly), but it does stand on its own two feet without needed to lean on the other films for help. If you watch this on its own you might forget there was an original film but deep down inside you will also say, "WE NEED ARNOLD!" (I know I was :P) The gore isn't very plentiful, and maybe some was cut, but there are a few kewl scenes to this movie. And I thought it was funny how these people are supposed to be combat trained and some of the world's most dangerous and yet they can't aim for shit! Idk, maybe its the planet's gravitational pull on the bullets make them miss most of the time. anyways, there are some really kewl scenes and some fun death scenes that might please us gore hounds. Although there could've been more! Overall, Predators is a fine reboot of the franchise with a very good cast and some fun scenes. Its predictable but fun and fast and worth seeing. Its not the best but its not bad, I give Predators a deserving 7/10!!!! -Dustin "Googopqp" M.
