A Serbian Film (2009) Review

Earlier today an article was posted about A Serbian Film being pulled from a film festival due to its graphic nature and refusal to be cut.  Of course, I needed to see why so I found a copy online and watched it immediately.  Viewer beware, the hype is more powerful than the movie.

 The movie is almost done in a Sam Raimi style of comedy, camera angles and just over the top.  Of course, Sam Raimi is a genius and this film was just about as far away from that as possible.  

The graphic parts talked about are when a baby was raped immediately after it was born, a man skull fucking another man and the main character raping his own son, unknown to him.  

The plot is so stupid to follow so I won't go into much detail other than filmmakers looking to push boundaries to make a "great" film using a porn star who can get an erection and hold it regardless of what's going on.  

You can see a lot in this movie which I would recommend against if you are a sensitive type.  You do see a baby getting raped (although it looks more fake than anything).  You do see a naked kid being raped (bloody too) but you don't see things that would make it technically illegal.  The shot of a penis being gouged into an eye socket is kinda cool, not going to lie there.  

Everywhere I read about this movie said that it's just a movie to push limits and boundaries and is, because of its nature, a one time watch.  To me, it's a one time watch because of everything else.  The gore was the only thing that made this movie interesting.  Story, acting and production just scream "throw me away".  However, I am glad I watched it because all controversial films need to be seen.  If you think you can handle it, please watch it.  Once you watch it, I'm sorry haha.  Peace.
