The Last Exorcism Review

Hey guys this is my review of The last exorcism, just got back from the theatre. Saw this movie with a couple of friends and overall we all had the same reaction.I think that it was a ok film but very overhyped. The basic plot is that a revrend who doesnt believe in god gives a 16 year old girl 2 exorcisms while her brother, father and camera crew watches and well shit starts going crazy. The movie is shot home video style and I really like films like that so I didnt have a problem with it but there was abit to much shaky cam and I know alot of people hate that. The ending is very FUCKED UP and I was actually confused by the end of it but ill talk about that later in the review. Im going to warn now that THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS.

So dont read on if you plan on seeing this and dont want to know the outcome of the story. I did feel at times in this movie that there was a creepy atmosphere and some of this movie was pretty chilling and that chick Nell did sort of creep me out in some parts of the film but she also did alot of Jump scares which are pretty lowsy. So this revrend doesnt believe in God, he basically is laughing the whole time during the first exorcism. He hides speakers in the room and plays demon sounds on a ipod and has a crucifix that he made that makes smoke come out of it. He is a douche but he does want Nell heathly again and tries to get her father to allow her to see a doctor but he perfers christian methods.

The brother in the film is a very angry guy, first time the revrend meets him is when hes looking for the house and stops a truck for directions, the brother of Nell tells them to go back where they came from and starts hucking rocks at the car, later on conflicts insue with him. One part of the movie I really liked and thought was creepy and FUCKED was when Nell steals the camera, she goes out into the barn and beats a cat to death with it. Now Im not saying I enjoyed seeing her fuck up a cat, I own a cat actually and ive always had one and doing that would be wrong but it was very creepy I thought. Later on Nell attacks her brother with a knife to the face and he gets rushed to the hospital. After that they tie Nell up in the barn and give her a second exorcism where she performs not as good body cracking scenes as Linda Blair in the exorcist but was definitly fucked up. After that exorcism she gets rest in her bed.  

Eventually we find out that Nell is pregnant and that she had sex with a guy named Logan who works at a diner, the revrend and the crew leave for home when they ask help from the church school pastor to fill in after the main revrend had finished the second exorcism. On there way home they come across the diner Logan works at and ask to talk to him, Logan appears to be gay and denys having sex with her and stating that he met her once for a minute or two. Then the revrend and the crew go back to Nells house and find no ones inside, they hear screaming in the distance and eventually come across a weird ass cult ceromony where Nell and her father are tied up. It seems the church school pastor is the leader of this cult and they take the fetus out of Nell and burn it in a huge ass fire, now after this part I completely lost track of what was going on, I might have to see it again to get it but there was alot of shaky cam here but ill go on.

So the flames go Huge as shit when the fetus is burned like its the demon or somthing and the revrend who was spying on this comes up to the flames holding a cross and then I guess the crew starts getting chased by the cult. You see one person get Slammed to shit with a axe I believe and I couldnt tell who it was it was dark and the camera was going everywhere, it could of bin the revrend, the camera guy or camera chick I dont know. Then the dood holding the last camera run in the forest stops and then Nells brother I believe comes out of no where (another jump scare) and then kills the person holding the camera. So the ending to me was one of the most fucked up confusing endings Ive ever seen, Maybe Ill be able to tell if I see it again on divxstage or something when it comes out on dvd but me and all my friends were like what the fuck just happened like it just wasnt me who didnt know what was going on. SO I think its alright movie, there are some creepy parts but most of it are jump scares and that ending was brutal so If I ever do watch it again it will only be cause im going to try and figure out that fucking ending either than that I wouldnt watch it again. This movie is no comparison to The Exorcist but it was alright.
