Paranormal Activity 2 Review

Did you ever see the hyped ads for the original "Paranormal Activity"? Paramount Pictures had included shots of audience members jumping in their seats. Yet, I personally didn't find the first movie to be that scary at all. It was creepy; certainly gave me the major heebie jeebies. But it wasn't "jump in your seat" scary. Fortunately, this "Poltergiest" -like sequel is. I loved the first movie, but this second film is what I expected the original to be: a major roller coaster ride. Watching the movie with a packed auditorium on a late Saturday night, I realized I hadn't seen this type of scary movie in a long, long time.
The movie starts quite similar to the first. In fact, it uses the same fake documentary presentation except its through security cameras this time (for the most part). As the movie begins, a California family is documenting the arrival of their newest family member; a sweet innocent baby boy. They also document their nice suburban home complete with a backyard swimming pool and gigantic HD TV screen. What will surprise most is that this movie takes place before the first "Paranormal Activity". In fact, the young terrorized couple of that film make appearances because Katy is the young sister to the mother/wife in this movie. Katy killed her boyfriend, Micah, at the end of the first pic in case you don't remember.
Anyhow, this sequel is just as nerve-shredding as the first because very little happens at first. But when the paranormal activity does occur, the movie never lets up in scares. In fact, I would compare it to Steven Spielberg's haunted house film "Poltergiest". In fact, I half expected him to be a producer on this movie, but he isn't. The film, like the first, contains exceptional "natural" acting from the entire cast. In fact, the baby and the family dog give terrific performances. Laugh at that observance if you will, but it's a true statement. "Paranormal Activity 2" is one of the scariest experiences you'll have in a theater. Go see it!
