Piranha 3D Review

"Jaws" meets "Girls Gone Wild". That's an accurate description of Alexandre Aja's remake of Roger Corman's b-movie. The movie itelf is a comeback of sorts for gore master Aja, who could not rescue the terrible "Mirrors" starring Kiefer Sutherland. Here, Aja goes for gore as much as he does boobs. Oh, and what beautiful boobs there are! Sorry, that might be a sexist statement, but seriously. If you're in the mood for gore, gags and gorgeous naked girls, than "Piranha" is definetely for you. Especially in 3D which I had the pleasure of seeing it in. Three bucks is all I payed to see this film in a glorious third-dimension. Hope you're not jealous.
The movie takes place at a beach resort during the summer where all of the crazy kids vacation. Elizabeth Shue and Ving Rhames play beach patrol officers who are in for the shift of their lives when mutant piranahs begin to storm the beach. It takes almost half the movie to get the bloody climax, but when it does, it's gory fun. Until then, the movie is almost an explicit ad for beach resorts. Girls get naked and the guys take pleasure in watching them get freaky. Male audience members in the audience will probably want to visit one when the movie's over. I know I did.
"Piranha 3D" doesn't take itself very seriously, of course. Doc Brown from "Back to the Future", I mean Christopher Lloyd shows up to tell us where the piranahs my have come from. And then there's Richard Dreyfuss who shows up at the beach again. Oh, and Eli Roth, director of both "Hostel" movies, makes an appearance as a wet-t shirt announcer. All of it adds up to silly fun. So, if you want to see a movie with killer piranhas and hot naked chicks, step in line to see this modern b-movie.
