Paranormal Activity 2 Review
Written by: Ophelia
About a year or so ago, I saw the first "Paranormal Activity" in the theater. Like the Blair With Project, it was shot by a shaky camcorder and was promoted as being 'real'. Of course, just like Blair Witch, I knew that Paranormal Activity was made up, but there were some genuinely spooky scenes.
The sequel to Paranormal Activity begins with a rich couple who bring their baby Hunter home and introduce him to the rest of the family, which includes a nanny, teenage step-sister and German Shepherd. Aunt Kate from the first film even makes an appearance, making this more of a prequel than a sequel. A few later clips later, and Hunter is now a toddler and the noises start. Martine, the nanny, senses something is wrong and performs some cleansing rituals using some incense. This causes the idiot father to freak out and fire her.
And then things start (slowly) going to hell. This movie was o.k., but it had some weaknesses. It seemed like it took forever for the actually scary scenes to start and there was too much filler before those jump in your seat moments. This movie was hyped to be even scarier than the first one but honestly, the bizarre moments were nowhere near as creepy. Using the same gimmick twice, reduces it's effectiveness, I think. The reason for the demonic presence was explained somewhat, but not really in a consistent way, which I found frustrating.
So to sum up: PA2 was just o.k. and didn't achieve the level of fright in the first movie.
