The Return of the Living Dead Review
Written by: TERRORWATCH
"Braaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnnssss", This movie must be possibly the best comedy horror movies Ive ever seen and ever going to see. It has everything to offer, loads of gore, loads of comedy and loads of fun, which makes a great combination crossed with the punky girl that strips. Lets start off with the story, OK its simple, two guys accidentally open some us army tanks full of zombie slime that turns everyone into zombies, simple! The movie was made in 1985 and two other movies follow from that ROTLD 2,3, which are both great, personally I prefer the Return series than to the more serious Night, Dawn and Day that George R created.
The acting in this movie, I cannot really praise there want any serious scenes in which the actors could do a good job and identify with their characters so thats a no go area, however on the subject of acting the punk girl has a cute body and didn't show it off a much as could of been added. The cast is very wide with many different age groups which is nice because I'm sick to death of seeing stupid ass teens get sliced and diced, even though I'm a teenie myself having the full 18 years of experience.
The special effects and gore in the movie is great, theres not allot missing and not to much either, Id have to say it was pretty perfect. All the zombies in this movie have there own indents just like Day of the dead (1985) did too. They all look great and you get used to seeing each zombie look great with pieces hanging off them and blood spurting everywhere. One problem about the special effects was that I never really liked the talking women zombie that was lied on the operating table, its was really fake and didn't look anything special at all as intended to do. I guess this movie is very cheesy so I can let it slip this time, as its not a serious movie its suppose to be fun, as it is.
In the whole movie theres a really good amount of fun atmosphere, I cant identify it but its a great one, it gives you a great deal of no space and very slammed together, with the help of having all the locations in the movie is close, the close factories and the graveyard over the road from them. The movie for me makes me very happy to watch and I'm entertained when I have watched for the thousandth time, and this time wont be the last.
The soundtrack to this movie is very rocky and it feels very much like its trying to sound like rocky, teenie lets have fun music which rocks, remember I have said it before, don't take nothing to serious about this movie. Id of loved to hear some really creepy cheesy music more, too much rock at times thats the only thing that I really missed about the whole sounds The effects were not what they could of been, id of love to herd more crunching and blood splattering many they had them just the rock drowned them out.
All in all this must be one of my favorite horror movies of my time, maybe the best, defiantly worth checking out and owning on DVD. If you love 80s zombie cheese, this is a must see. With the 4th movie being made of the ROTLD series check all 3 out and be ready for the 4th. Nice 80s American zombie cheese that kick ass.
